A 47-year-old man was arrested at Safeway in Wilsonville for threatening employees and customers with a hammer on Monday, April 29.

After failed attempts to reason with him, deputies used a taser to subdue and arrest David Lee Mangum, according to a Facebook post by the Wilsonville Police Department. The post said Magnum did not cooperate with deputies’ commands and “continuously yelled at the deputies to kill him.”

Wilsonville Police Chief Robert Wurpes said in an email that there were no reported injuries.

According to the Facebook post, the initial report described a man attempting to attack people in the Safeway with a hammer. Deputies at the Wilsonville Police Department responded to a 911 call about the incident at 6:38 p.m,and found Mangum in an aisle at the grocery store.

Mangum is being held in Clackamas County Jail with bail set at $7,500, the post said. Court documents show he is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, three counts of menacing, resisting arrest and second-degree disorderly conduct. Mangum also had prior outstanding warrants unrelated to this incident.
