Jogger’s phone reportedly stolen at gunpoint in Wilmette

A woman jogging near Indian Hill country club reportedly was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday morning in Wilmette.

A press release from the Wilmette Police Department says officers responded around 9 a.m. to Beechwood and Hunter avenues — a residential area in northeast Wilmette and just to the south of the country club — for a report of an armed robbery.

Two male offenders in a black sedan and wearing bandanas over their face approached a 44-year-old woman who was jogging on the sidewalk, according to the release. One of the offenders reportedly pointed a gun at the woman and demanded her cellphone. The alleged offenders took the phone and fled, and the jogger was not physically injured, police say.

“This is unusual activity for the area and for Wilmette as a whole,” Deputy Chief Michael Robinson said.

Wilmette police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to call (847) 256-1200.
