Mobile asks judge to dismiss wrongful-death suit related to fatal police raid
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The city on Thursday asked a federal judge to dismiss a wrongful-death lawsuit alleging that a SWAT Team officer unlawfully shot a man last year. The city maintains that the plaintiff’s attorney, Willie Huntley, failed to file a claim with the city within six months of the March 2023 incident, as required by law. The city also argues that the civil complaint fails to sufficiently allege specific wrongdoing by the city.
AMNS Calvert expansion gets funding boost from DOE
CALVERT, Ala. (WALA) - A planned steel manufacturing facility near Mobile got a major boost in funding earlier this week from the U.S. Department of Energy. ArcelorMittal Calvert, wholly owned by ArcelorMittal, is planning an advanced manufacturing facility in Calvert that could deliver 150,000 metric tons of domestic production capacity of non-grain-oriented electrical steel (NOES).

Mobile PD: Double shooting on Prairie Ave. leaves one dead, juvenile critically injured
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — According to Mobile Police, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at approximately 9:33 p.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Prairie Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim deceased in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Upon further investigation, a male juvenile victim with a gunshot wound was also discovered in a second vehicle. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
