    National Park Service welcoming volunteers to spruce up C&O Canal for summer season

    WILLIAMSPORT, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The National Park Service is inviting volunteers to get the trails in shape for the season in western Maryland along the C & O Canal.

    With the warmer weather, officials say now is the best time to spruce up the canal.

    “We’d love to have a thousand volunteers to help us in the park from Georgetown all the way to Cumberland, Maryland with clean up efforts, beautification, maintenance” said Lauren Ribiello, president and CEO of the C & O Canal Trust C&O Canal Trust .

    “It’s a great time of year to come visit the park,” said Christiana Hansen with the National Park Service at the C & O Canal here. “We want people to see all of the cultural resources we have. Come and check out the towpath.”

    Clean up along the canal in Williamsport is set for Saturday.
