SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KSNW) — Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Kunze died in the line of duty in 2018 while apprehending a suspect.

Back in 2000, Deputy Kunze purchased a 1966 Pontiac GTO with plans to restore it with his daughter Alyssa when he retired. He never got the chance to see it, but following his death, the Wichita GTO Club was determined to restore the car as a gift to his family.

They fulfilled that promise, presenting the fully restored car to Alyssa and his widow Kathleen in October 2024 . Deputy Kunze’s memory is being honored again at the National GTO Association of America convention in Springfield, Mo.

His restored GTO, along with his patrol vehicle, are being showcased at the convention, which runs through Sunday. This isn’t the first outing for the GTO.

It was showcased in Wichita in January at the Cars for Charity Car Show .
