Wednesday, local officials will take part in a Law Enforcement Appreciation ceremony in front of Wichita City Hall. Sedgwick County Commission Chair Ryan Baty tells KNSS News the Commission has proclaimed this Police Week. He says this ceremony honors law enforcement personnel killed or disabled in the line of duty.

Baty says in 2022, 224 officers lost their lives nation-wide, last year 136. Sedgwick County has lost 10 deputies in the line of duty. Baty says "This is a big deal".

Recently Wichita City government and the Ascension medical facilities have been hit by crippling computer hackers. Baty says the county is well aware of cyber security with close to 70 people in its I-T department, and the county "take it very seriously."

Baty commented during his weekly appearance on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
