WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol are monitoring this weekend’s weather forecast and are encouraging travelers to be prepared.

Troopers are prepped for emergency response. They say that in severe weather, strong gusts can cause issues for drivers, especially for large trucks or other high-profile vehicles, which can be blown over by the wind.

“When we’re passing vehicles, be aware that those big huge strong gusts of winds the drivers are doing what they can to keep it in their lanes, but those trucks don’t have much room left in the lane, so be aware. As you’re traveling by these commercial motor vehicles,” said KHP Trooper Chad Crittenden.

Trooper Crittenden says to dial 511 for highway and weather-related information and make sure you have checked the forecast before hitting the road.

If you do have travel, it’s important to always be aware of where you can take shelter quickly if needed.
