WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A murder investigation is underway by the Wichita Falls Police Department after a man with an eye injury was found to have a bullet in his brain, ultimately resulting in his death.
LOCAL NEWS: Sheppard AFB pilot killed in ejection identified According to Sgt. Charlie Eipper, spokesperson for the WFPD, officers responded on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024, at 12:35 a.m. to a residence in the 1400 block of New Haven Road to conduct a welfare check on a male.
Sgt. Eipper said the officers arrived and found Deron Edward Royster, Jr., 31, of Wichita Falls, with an injury to his left eye. Sgt. Eipper said officers called for AMR to respond to the scene.
According to Sgt. Eipper, Royster was unable to explain how he was injured, and people on the scene were uncooperative. Royster was transported to United Regional and eventually to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for his injury.
Sgt. Eipper said it was determined that Royster had a bullet in his brain.
LOCAL NEWS: Electra man charged with assaults at state hospital According to authorities, Royster died from his injury on May 14, 2024. Sgt. Eipper said police are investigating this incident as a murder.

Sgt. Eipper assured citizens that they are safe and there is no danger to the public regarding this incident. Sgt. Eipper said this is the fourth homicide in Wichita Falls of 2024.
