WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A suspect is now in custody for a break-in at Castaway Cove Waterpark in early March when police used a drone to search for a man who fled the scene.

Jacob Lee Martinez is charged with burglary and evading arrest after being identified through surveillance video.

On the morning of Saturday, March 9, 2024, Wichita Falls Police responded to the waterpark after an employee said surveillance video showed a man dressed in dark clothing breaking into the building and destroying and stealing property.

The employee said an alarm had gone off about three hours earlier, but she believed it was accidentally set off by another employee. However, when checking the video later, she saw the burglar and called police.

While on scene, officers saw a man in dark clothing jumping over a fence and yelled for him to stop and chased him, but he was not found. A search of the wooded area around the park with a drone also was unsuccessful.

A still shot clipped from the surveillance video revealed the suspect’s face, and the investigation led police to suspect it was Martinez.

A match to a mug shot of Martinez for a recent arrest for attempted mail theft of more than 10 addresses led to his arrest.
