Ceremony marks opening of new Wilshire Division police station
The Los Angeles Police Department’s new $1.7 million Wilshire Division police station at 4861 Venice Blvd. was dedicated in this photograph in the May 9, 1974, issue of the Park Labrea News. Capt. Robert S. Tucker, third from right, participated in the flag salute with other members of the command staff. It marked the second move for the police station, which was established in 1922 on Wilshire Boulevard in the Koreatown area, and was later located at 4526 W. Pico Blvd. The station remains open today and can be reached by calling (213)473-0476.
Los Angeles County Fair debuts new roller rink
Skaters and families grooved under the spinning disco ball and metallic hanging stars at the new Skate-R-Cade at the Los Angeles County Fair on Mother’s Day. The Skate-R-Cade is a new feature at the Los Angeles County Fair this year and offers free skate play and skate check-out for one hour with a signed waiver and classic arcade games such as pinball and Pac-man for a cost of $5 for one hour, $8 for one and half hours and $20 for all day.
8 Teens Hospitalized After Ingesting Marijuana Edibles During School Field Trip
Eight teens were hospitalized after taking marijuana edibles during a school field trip on Tuesday. According to authorities, the teens became “acutely ill” after ingesting edibles during a trip to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. An on-site security officer found the students and called 911. An ambulance then transported the eight teens to nearby hospitals for further evaluation.
