Person struck and killed by train in Marion, police say
MARION, Va. (WCYB) — A person was struck and killed by a train Wednesday morning, according to the Marion Police Department. Officers responded to the train tracks near the Church Street bridge. Police chief John Clair said the person appears to be a person from out of state who was traveling through using the railway.

The following information was provided by the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. April 8 William D. Dishman, 48, of West Jefferson, was charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Abingdon veteran killed in Pearl Harbor attack accounted for
WASHINGTON (WCYB) — An Abingdon veteran who was killed in the Pearl Harbor attack has been accounted for, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). On December 7, 1941, Seaman First Class James Holzhauer, 23, of Abingdon, was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Holzhauer.
