WESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The National Rifle Association (NRA) Foundation has awarded a generous grant of $6,500 to the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC), WV-941 Minutemen at Lewis County High School.

The grant will specifically fund the acquisition of two air rifles and three air tanks, furthering the school’s Cadet Marksmanship Program.

Kenny Matthews, Chairman of the Central WV Friends of the NRA, expressed excitement about the contribution, stating, “We are very excited about our contributions to the establishment of a Cadet Marksmanship Program at Lewis County High School,” highlighting the NRA’s commitment to investing in local communities.

The Lewis County High School AFJROTC program, known as WV-941 Minutemen, was established in 1994 with a mission to “Develop citizens of character.”

The program offers a comprehensive range of curricular and co-curricular activities, focusing on aerospace technology, self-reliance, self-discipline, leadership, and STEM concepts.

Importantly, AFJROTC is open to 9th-12th grade students who are U.S. citizens and is a citizenship program rather than a military recruiting program, with no obligation to the Air Force incurred by participating students.

Founded in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group, with a membership of five million. It continues to champion Second Amendment rights and is a leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement, and the military.

The NRA Foundation, established in 1990 as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, raises tax-deductible contributions to support various firearm-related public interest activities. These activities include promoting firearm and hunting safety, enhancing marksmanship skills, and educating the public about firearms.

The Friends of NRA program is a grassroots fundraising initiative that organizes community events for firearms enthusiasts.

Net proceeds from these events are allocated to The NRA Foundation, which supports shooting sports programs through grants for equipment, training materials, range improvements, and more.
