Members of the Waupaca Historical Society took students into the depot ticket office to show off the telegraph key that was used to tap out messages down the lines which followed the rail line. Next stage of Business 51 work brings road closures, water shut-offs

STEVENS POINT − Construction on the next phase of the Business 51 reconstruction project in Stevens Point is set to begin Oct. 26, bringing new road closures and traffic changes along part of the corridor. The work marks the start of the project's second stage and is expected to continue until mid-December, according to a community announcement. During this phase, crews will complete a single-lane roundabout and reconstruct a section of Business 51 between Franklin Street and an area about 400 feet north of Fourth Avenue. Officials said all businesses along the corridor will remain open and accessible throughout construction. The work is part of a nine-stage infrastructure project stretching from Briggs Street to North Point Drive. When completed, the project will include a new two-lane roadway with a center lane for two-way left turns, along with upgrades to sanitary sewer, water main and storm sewer utilities. Street lighting improvements are also planned. According to the announcement, the project is intended to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists while enhancing accessibility along the route.
