Northampton teachers union is latest to vote no confidence in superintendent
The Northampton Association of School Employees, or NASE, voted no confidence in the district’s superintendent, Portia Bonner, amid an ongoing budget dispute. The union delivered a statement at a meeting of the city’s school committee on Thursday night, saying that 96%, or 348, members who voted in the poll had voted that they no longer had confidence in Bonner’s ability to lead the district. NASE President Andrea Egitto said the total represented an “overwhelming majority.”
Months after rosy financial outlook, Hampshire College cuts staff benefits
Almost three months ago, Hampshire College president Ed Wingenbach said the institution was rebounding after being faced with closure in 2019 due to financial difficulties. But now the college, based in Amherst, appears to be back in financial hot water, temporarily suspending staff retirement contributions and having senior leadership take a year-long pay cut to make up for low enrollment numbers and FAFSA delays, according a college spokesperson.

AMHERST – The Walpole High School softball team’s only loss off the season came against No. 5 Milton, 4-3, on April 10. Milton (18-4) was upset by No. 21 Notre Dame, of Hingham (13-8) in just their second state tournament game, 8-7. Notre Dame fell to Westfield (20-4) in the quarterfinals, 5-1. It should come as no surprise then that the final game was decided by just one run.
