The recruiting process is beginning to heat up for 2026 Ohio EDGE Cam Thomas . And one of the schools that piques his interest is Purdue, which recently offered the four-star prospect from Lakota West High in West Chester, Ohio.

“Coach (Ryan) Walters seems like he wants to build something special at Purdue,” said Thomas. “I know some top players from this area that have been to Purdue. They all enjoy their visits and they all say Coach Walters is hands on in recruitment.”

The 6-2, 217-pound Thomas already has offers from the likes of Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Pitt, Cincinnati, Louisville and Georgia Tech, among others. What does Thomas like about Purdue?

“For one, the coaching staff is pretty fun,” said Thomas. “They are all young and entertaining. They seem like they are close on and off the field. Also, Purdue is in a major conference. The Big Ten is big for midwest kids, so that’s definitely a plus.”

Thomas is being wooed by Purdue rush ends coach Joe Dineen .

“Coach Dineen is pretty cool, I met him initially when I came for camp my freshman year,” said Thomas. “He has a lot of knowledge, so I know I’ll be developed well at Purdue.”

Thomas has been to Purdue twice. One for camp, one for a game vs Ohio State last year. He plans on coming back in the fall for another game to enhance his relationship with the staff.

“As a player, I’m versatile, which is my best trait because I feel like I don’t have to come off the field,” said Thomas. “I think my football IQ is good and getting better. Playing with such great players at Lakota West, you learn the mental aspect of the game. I also rush the passer well, using my athleticism to beat a lot of linemen.”

What’s his timetable for making a decision?

“I’ll probably make my choice this time next year,” fessed Thomas. “I’m just a sophomore now, so I’m trying to build these relationships early so I know what program fits me the best. I’m just blessed to be in this position.”
