ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Towns near the border of Wayne and Monroe Counties may hear sirens go off next Tuesday — and county leaders assure there is nothing to be alarmed about.

Constellation’s R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant is testing all 96 sirens for up to five minutes on Tuesday, May 7. This will occur between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The test is for the plant’s public notification system. Residents who live in parts of Webster, Penfield, and near Irondequoit Bay will hear the sound.

Residents are warned that, although the test will happen in the morning, there may be more tests conducted throughout the day.

In a real emergency, the sirens would alert the public to tune into the Local Emergency Alert System radio or television station.
