Shenandoah council reduces water rationing from stage four to stage one
(Shenandoah) -- In the wake of recent rainfall, the city of Shenandoah is no longer in stage four water rationing. Meeting in regular session Tuesday evening, the Shenandoah City Council unanimously approved the city water department's recommendation to drastically reduce the water rationing efforts from stage four down to stage one, which only includes voluntary conservation. Late last year, the city jumped to stage three conservation for the first time in 23 years before increasing to stage four in November, where it had remained since due to the city's water well levels. However, in reading a letter from Water Superintendent Tim Martin, Shenandoah Mayor Roger McQueen says the move back to stage one comes after heavy rains rolled through much of the region over the past month.

McQueen: Shen guard armory's future closing 'a sad deal'
(Shenandoah) -- Preliminary discussions regarding the future of Shenandoah's National Guard Armory Building are underway. On Friday, guard officials announced the city's armory facility built in 1956 is expected to close next year. Plans call for shifting the 132 members of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 168th Infantry and units from Sheldon and Sioux City to the guard's new West Des Moines readiness center beginning in 2025. Shenandoah Mayor Roger McQueen met with Major Stephen Osborne, the guard's adjutant general, and other guard officials Friday prior to the announcement. McQueen tells KMA News Osborne and staff outlined the reasons for the armory's pending closure.
Atlantic Baseball Drops Both in Double-Header
(Atlantic, IA) The Atlantic Trojans took on the Shenandoah Mustangs in a double-header at Trojan Baseball Field. The Trojans came into the games with a record of 1-9 (1-7) looking to add a couple of games to the win column. The Mustangs came into the night with a record of 7-7 (2-6) winning three of their last four games.

US-75 open after crash involving semi-trucks

People for Paws seeking volunteers, dog adoptions
(Shenandoah) -- A local animal shelter seeks more volunteers and individuals willing to adopt animals. People for Paws, a private rescue in Shenandoah, is seeking assistance from volunteers to help care for dogs and cats currently staying at the shelter. Linda Hoefing is the shelter director. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Show" Thursday, Hoefing says the need for more volunteers comes as they experience an influx of animals entering the shelter.
