Some folks, especially north of Albany, are waking up with some thick fog Friday, but that will quickly burn off by mid morning yielding to a mix of sun and clouds. The return of sunshine will boost our Friday temperatures well into the 70s. After a small blip Saturday featuring a few showers, easily our warmest stretch of the season is heading our way for next week.
La Salle Institute female grads reflect on making history
In 2021, La Salle Institute in Troy made a historic change by allowing female students to enroll for the first time since its founding in 1850. Migrants evacuated from Rotterdam motel
Town officials ordered the mandatory evacuation Wednesday afternoon after finding the fire alarm and sprinkler system inoperable. “We’ve been told it could take up to a couple of weeks (to make repairs),” said Bill Sherman, of Allies For Justice Schenectady County, a volunteer organization that’s been providing assistance for migrant families since they moved into the Super 8 in July 2023.
Disability rights advocate says state senator with violent history shoved him at New York Capitol
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A disability rights advocate made a complaint to New York State Police saying he was shoved twice in the state capitol building by state Sen. Kevin Parker, a Brooklyn Democrat with a history of violent behavior. Michael Carey said his confrontation with Parker took place Wednesday after he approached the senator before a committee meeting and asked him to cosponsor a piece of legislation. Parker lost his temper, Carey said, after the advocate described the legislation as tackling a “Dr. Martin Luther King type of situation” regarding discrimination against people with disabilities. Carey said the senator got inches from his face and yelled “I don’t care.” Carey, who became an advocate after his son Jonathan died while in state care, said he responded “You don’t care that my son died?”
