This survey claims Albany is the best place to live in the state of New York
U.S. News & World Report just released its list of the best places to live in New York in 2023-2024 and we cannot hide our surprise: not only did Albany land at number one, but all top four entries are pretty far from New York City, which we consider to be the very best place to live in the whole world, of course.

Meteorological spring began on March 1 and includes the months of March, April and May. So yay, it's spring! And so far the month of March has been very warm with temperatures through the first two weeks running about ten degrees above the 1991-2020 thirty year average at Albany. But...
Albany Democrats propose an absolutely ridiculous budget
In their annual one-house budget resolutions, Democratic majorities in the state Assembly and Senate laid out their negotiating position for this year’s budget deal with Gov. Hochul. They’ve decided to spend more — $13 billion more than the governor’s already-record $233 billion executive budget. And tax high earners and corporations more too, despite Hochul’s opposition. What would New Yorkers get for lawmakers’ nearly quarter-trillion dollars in state spending? Start with illegal pot shops. The cannabis industry spent years and millions of dollars lobbying New York’s leaders in the leadup to legalization. A regulated and taxed market was supposed to bring an economic boon. Instead, it’s paved...

Albany progressives look to chase out more New Yorkers with yet more tax hikes
Albany progressives are pushing for another ginormous state tax hike this year, and never mind how New York’s brutal rates are already driving taxpayers (and job creators) to flee, steadily eroding the tax base. Both the state Senate and the Assembly included hefty hikes — as much as $2.2 billion — in their responses to Gov. Hochul’s budget plan, along the way to settling the final budget by month’s end. Taxpayers earning more than $5 million would face a bump of half a percentage point, pushing the top rate to 11.4%, and a whopping 15.3% in the city — in addition to...
