The Washington Capitals saw two of their players clash at the IIHF World Championship in Prague on Monday, as Ryan Leonard and Martin Fehervary faced off against one another in a preliminary matchup between the United States and Slovakia.

Fehervary's team would emerge victorious in a 5-4 overtime win, where Fehervary ranked second among Slovaks in ice time (21:38) and picked up an assist en route to the victory.

Leonard didn't put up the performance he'd hoped, nor did he get much time to; dressing as the extra forward for the U.S., the 19-year-old skated just 4:48 minutes and had seven shifts total while posting a plus/minus rating of minus-1.

Looking at their Worlds runs so far, Fehervary has enjoyed his time for Slovakia, picking up a goal and assist, two penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of plus-1 through three games. He is also among the ice time leaders for his nation, trailing behind only Simon Nemec.

Slovakia ranks second in Group B with five points so far and a 2-1-0 record.

Leonard, meanwhile, has had a bit of a rougher showing to open the tournament. He has appeared in all three games and has one assist. After starting the tournament on the third line with Joel Farabee and Shane Pinto, Leonard has dressed as the extra forward up front.

The United States has gone 1-1-1 through three games and has four points so far.

There is still plenty of time to play, and there will likely be more opportunity for Leonard to get more ice time and play on a different line as Team USA figures out its combinations. Meanwhile, Fehervary will look to continue providing offense from the blue line for the Slovaks.
