While the next Consumer Price Index showcasing April prices will not be released until the first weeks of May, DC News Now is comparing prices published Monday to a month, and week prior.

According to lowest prices shown online at Walmart, Giant and Safeway Monday, in the past week, the lowest price for 12-count carton of brown eggs went up 85 cents at Walmart.

Giant’s wheat bread dropped in price in seven days and is now on sale for $1.99, compared to $2.89.

An avocado now costs $2 each at Safeway, doubling in price in one week, while 2% gallons of milk prices were unchanged across the board.

According to the lowest prices shown online one month ago at the three retailers, there did not appear to be cause for wide eyes among consumers, since prices slightly fluctuated.
