A line of thunderstorms with gusty winds could move through the Detroit area this afternoon, fueled by the warmth and humidity of the day. The National Weather Service in White Lake said a broken line of storms was moving through, and meteorologist Kyle Klein predicted a slight chance of a tornado this afternoon.
Marginal risk of severe storms Monday night in Southeast Michigan
(CBS DETROIT) - Temperatures warm up, helping fuel a chance of severe weather into this evening. Showers and storms will move in this afternoon with a marginal risk (category 1 out of 5) of severe weather. Strong storms will be possible until about 6 p.m. this evening. Damaging winds with gusts up to 60 miles per hour are the biggest threat with these storms; however, hail, heavy downpours, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially in the thumb area. The storm system will be moving from the southwest to the northeast at about 50 mph. Scattered showers will continue overnight as a cold front pushes through, bringing us drier conditions, more sunshine, and cooler temperatures on Tuesday. (FOX 2) - Monday provided a taste of our incoming summer and now temperatures will pull back marginally as we say goodbye to rain - at least until Friday. Ponding, reduced visibility, and even some minor flooding were some of the impacts of showers that fell overnight into Tuesday. About half an inch was reported at Coleman A Young Airport, where the National Weather Service tracks water levels.
