(CBS DETROIT) - A 33-year-old man is sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for the fatal shooting at a barbershop in Sterling Heights.According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, David Kanouna, of Sterling Heights, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony firearm. Prosecutors say Kanouna shot and killed Sharaz Hussain on June 13, 2020, at The Barber Co.He was sentenced to 22 and a half to 50 years for the murder charge and two years for the firearm charge. He is ordered to serve the sentences consecutively."We cannot bring back the life that was lost, but we can honor the victim's memory by ensuring that the consequences of such heinous acts are met with unyielding resolve. This case serves as a somber reminder that we must remain vigilant in our pursuit of justice and work towards a safer community, where every individual's life and security is protected," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido in a statement.

Hazy skies filled with wildfire smoke settled into the Great Lakes region on Tuesday night, triggering Air Quality Action Days for most of Southeast Michigan. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy declared Wednesday June 7, and Thursday June 8, to be an Action Day for elevated levels of fine particulate in Southeast Michigan counties.

This is a letter of resignation that is to be effective as of Monday, June 5, 2023. I did receive a non-renewal letter on May 30th. While we all know the real reason my position is not being renewed, it has been explained to me that my district position will no longer be supported, however, each building is to receive an MTSS Coordinator. Building level MTSS support was something the curriculum department had planned to accomplish via building level instructional coaching and specialist positions guided by district level guidance and support. Since that, as all other things that have been planned for by the curriculum department have been thrown out the window by Ms. Ahmed, I am hopeful she will actually stand by her current decision and follow through with building level MTSS Coordinator positions. I have copies of my non-renewal with exact wording should it be needed to prove that this is the direction that leadership has decided to take.
