WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A mother and daughter accused in a child and animal neglect investigation in Mingo County appeared in court Thursday. Sharon Simpson, 63, and Christi Hatfield, 37, both of Williamson were arrested May 7 at an apartment building on West 4th Avenue. The mother and daughter lived in separate apartments in the building, according to family members who said the children were in Simpson's apartment.

Yearly fishing tournament scheduled for next week
The FourthAnnual Bob Wellman Memorial Fishing Tournament is scheduled for next week, May 18, at Laurel Lake, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers said the event is free and will include prizes for the biggest fish caught in the adult and children (under 18) division.
