Sam Diego's auction date set as restaurant closing | Exclusive

Sam Diego’s Mexican Cookery and Bar is done. “We have not sold the business as Sam Diego’s so Sam Diego’s as a restaurant business will be closed on Nov. 14,” said Clarke Buchanan, one of several friends who started Sam’s in 1982. An auction of Sam Diego’s artwork and other decor will be held Nov. 20 to Dec. 2. The auction will be run by Local Liquidation Auctions out of Arizona. They are photographing auction items and writing descriptions now for the online auction. Those who win auctioned items should expect to pick them up at the restaurant on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4, Buchanan said. “There is stuff that’s worth collecting. We have a lot of original artwork by (Barre) Pinske … papier-mǎché by Sergio Bustamante, a Mexican artist, painted cow skulls.” Links to the auction will be available through Sam Diego’s social media. There are plans to auction pretty much all the decorations except the Sergio Bustamante moon. The Bustamante sun, which visitors like to photograph, will be sold. It was damaged years ago by college kids trying to take it off the wall for photos, but repaired by Cape Cod artist Cristina (Cris) Reverdy, Buchanan said. Located

A new sign outside a familiar Route 44 storefront in Lakeville has raised a couple of questions. What's opening there, and what exactly is it called? A commenter in a private Facebook group recently reported seeing a sign for Simply Steak at the former Tutto Italiano location in Lakeville Business Center, wondering whether a restaurant or butcher shop was moving in. But a photograph taken for The Enterprise on Tuesday, Nov. 3, revealed something else. The sign actually reads Crazy Steak, with the tagline "Seriously Fresh." And as it turns out, the man behind the business has a different take on how steak should be served. Tim Malinosky, a longtime restaurant operator who also runs the wedding venue Loon Pond Lodge in Lakeville, is preparing to open the new eatery at 12 Harding St. What businesses previously occupied the space? The storefront has seen several businesses come and go, including Tutto Italiano, the Italian deli and specialty food shop longtime residents may remember.
