DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A local girl received recognition for raising money for her sheriff’s office.

According to our affiliate WLIO in Lima, Emma Hunley is a Girl Scout with Troop 2063. For her project to receive the Girl Scout Gold Award, Hunley had to figure out a way to “ make a lasting change ” or solve a community problem.

The girl from Wapakoneta decided to take action to support the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, WLIO reports. She had heard the sheriff’s office had its budget cut due to the COVID pandemic.

To support her community, Hunley raised $50,000 in support of the sheriff’s office. She took the funds raised and purchased a new pickup truck for the office’s DARE program.

WLIO says Hunley will be receiving the Gold Award in March 2025.
