Judge dismisses Black motorist’s lawsuit against Grand Rapids, Kentwood police in traffic stop
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A judge dismissed a Black motorist’s lawsuit against Grand Rapids and Kentwood police after the man alleged he was stopped because of his race. Johnathan Gafford, a Beaumont, Texas, man who was in the area for business, said he was held at gunpoint and detained for an hour.
Grand Rapids eatery named 12th best brunch in nation by Yelp
According to online review site Yelp, Lucy's on Plainfield Avenue has the 12th best brunch in the nation. James Berg is CEO and partner of Essence Restaurant Group, which owns four Grand Rapids restaurants, including Lucy’s. He says one of his line cooks predicted big things for Lucy’s just before the Yelp article was released.

GROUNDBREAKING | Construction begins on $10 million expansion project for Calvin Christian High School
GRANDVILLE, Mich — The $10 million expansion of Calvin Christian High School (CCHS) in Grandville officially broke ground Tuesday morning. The project will breathe new life into the school, which was founded 60 years ago. The project includes a 22,000-square-foot renovation, a science wing, student support services center, strength and conditioning facility and enhanced security.
