GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A longtime resident of the Kent County Animal Shelter has been adopted, the shelter says.

Toffee, a mastiff mix, came to the shelter in October 2022 as a stray. KCAS says she spent more than 500 days there — but now, Toffee has found a new home. The dog was adopted about a month ago, according to a social media post from the animal shelter, and has adapted well.

Meet Toffee: An ‘energetic, playful’ long-term shelter pet

“Toffee is a loving, smart, sweet baby. She’s flourished with her new routine, house full of cats and dogs and humans, time outside, food puzzles, and cuddle sessions,” the family told KCAS. “While it has definitely taken consistency and daily work, Toffee is able to express her love for us without the nibbles and jumps.”

Toffee has been described as energetic and playful. In August, the shelter told News 8 Toffee had been adopted once before but was later returned.

On Tuesday, the KCAS team thanked Toffee’s new family for loving her.

“Thank you so much for seeing what we could see in this big doof,” the shelter wrote. “This is what it’s all about.”
