GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — While bands, DJs and cheerleaders have long been a part of the Amway River Bank Run course, organizers have added even more this year to keep runners from losing steam.

The course will now feature 10 different bands and DJs, as well as five spirit stations. The entertainment will include the Grandville High School cheer team, East Grand Rapids Drumline, DJ Comp and the band Annagail, which features a folk rock, Americana sound.

“The goal this year was for runners to really not have to go more than a mile, a mile and a half without running into either an aid station or a spirit station or a band just to give them that extra boost of motivation,” Steve Morrow, the events coordinator for the River Bank Run, said.

Jared Adams, one of the founding members of the band Annagail, has been a part of the race for four years. The band will be posted at Veterans Memorial Drive again this year, and Adams expects just as much energy as in previous years.

“They come around the corner and kind of emerge over this hill,” Adams said. “It’s a very triumphant sort of scene, a lot of people whoop and holler and equally cheer us on, so it’s such a great exchange of energy in that moment.”
