Greenfield officials approve new hotel in 84 South shopping center
What is currently a vacant plot in the 84 South shopping center in Greenfield is slated to become a 36,800-square-foot hotel. Greenfield Common Council approved plans during its Sept. 15 meeting for a new Cobblestone Hotel and Suites to be built between the Aurora Medical Building and Steinhafels furniture store. The proposed four-story, 62-room hotel at 8900 Sura Lane would include support spaces, a pool, a continental breakfast room, a fitness area and a beer and wine bar. It would also come with 44 new parking spots and an outdoor patio area. Jeremy Griesbach, co-owner and president of development of BriMark Builders , told the Plan Commission on Sept. 8 the average daily rate for a room would be around $150, but prices could range between $109 and $300. Griesbach said on Sept. 8 he wanted construction to start this year. He added, ideally, the hotel would open at the end of 2027, but noted that was an ambitious target. A Cobblestone Hotel and Suites in Waukesha opened in June , almost three years after city officials approved a final site plan for the hotel in November 2023. The Greenfield hotel will be the Neenah-based company's 33rd location in Wisconsin.

Milwaukee landlord Highgrove seeks bankruptcy in ongoing legal fight
Embattled Milwaukee landlord David Tomblin, whose rental company is facing several lawsuits over debts and nuisance business practices, has filed for bankruptcy, recent court records show. Tomblin filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for Highgrove Holdings Management LLC, a management company that oversees the rentals of Tomblin's properties owned under about four separate real estate LLC's, according to the bankruptcy filing. Among the lawsuits Tomblin is facing is a filing by the Milwaukee City Attorney's Office looking to take dozens of his properties out of his control and place them into a receivership − a legal action where a judge appoints a third party to manage the properties and make needed improvements. Many of Tomblin's properties have been left vacant and dilapidated, possibly as far back as 2020, according to previous Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporting . "From the beginning our goal has been to see these properties restored and cared for and will continue to pursue these ends in whatever courtroom the case is heard," Milwaukee City Attorney Evan Goyke said in a statement. What does Chapter 11 bankruptcy mean? Bankruptcy is a legal proceeding that pauses debt payments while the filer tries to get into a position for repayment by

Where Black-Owned Lending Doesn’t Reach: Mapping the (Primary) Mortgage Gap
“How do we think about buying the home, but not who is supplying the mortgage? The capital, the very thing we constantly say needs to circulate more we give no thought too. We give no thought to who owns the mortgage company, title company, the real estate brokerage company our agent works for. All we know is – we are buying a house and unfortunately we think that is enough and we could not be more wrong.” – William A. Foster, IV.

Long-awaited Fishbone Social restaurant opens in Midtown
A long-awaited all-day restaurant, cafe and social lounge has opened in Milwaukee’s Midtown neighborhood and is set to celebrate with a grand opening party. Fishbone Social , 2501 W.
