MidAmerican Energy assessing power outages following Tuesday storms, tornadoes
(KMAland) -- MidAmerican Energy officials are assessing the damage and power outages caused by severe storms and tornadoes Tuesday morning and afternoon. Much of KMAland was dealt two rounds of severe weather Tuesday as after an initial system came through early in the morning, a second line of storms roared through the region, spawning multiple tornadoes in southwest Iowa. MidAmerican Energy Spokesperson Tina Hoffman says that, as of late Tuesday afternoon, over 700 customers were without power following the outbreak.

Red Oak Police Report 2 Arrests
(Red Oak) Red Oak Police arrested two men on Sunday on the 300 block of East Nuckols Street. According to the report, Officers arrested Dylan Elwood Taylor, 28, of Red Oak, and Jacob Wayne Dukes-Vargas, 38 (address unknown), for Accessory After the Fact, a simple misdemeanor. Officers transported Taylor and Dukes to the Montgomery County Jail, holding each on a $300.00 bond.
Clarinda council supports local developer's application for workforce housing tax credit
(Clarinda) -- Clarinda city officials have thrown their support behind a local company applying for a state program designed to spur housing development. Meeting in regular session Wednesday evening, the Clarinda City Council, by a 4-0 vote, approved a resolution of support for 1515 South 16th Street, LLC to apply for a workforce housing tax credit. The Iowa Economic Development Authority offers the program, focusing on projects using abandoned, empty, or dilapidated properties. Per the IEDA website, the program requires the developer to construct at least four single-family homes or one multi-family structure containing at least three units or two or more upper-story units. Clarinda City Manager Gary McClarnon says plans from Brandon Juon and Ryan Rogers currently call for building new homes on four vacant properties.
Clarinda, South Page finalize superintendent sharing
(Clarinda/College Springs) -- Another piece of the Clarinda-South Page staff sharing puzzle is in place for next school year. By unanimous vote late Wednesday afternoon, the Clarinda School Board approved a superintendent sharing agreement with the South Page School District. The agreement is in conjunction with a tuition agreement, in which South Page 7-12 grade students will attend classes in Clarinda during the 2024-25 school year. Clarinda School Superintendent Jeff Privia tells KMA News the districts will share his services on a 80%-20% basis.
Red Oak council reviews wastewater treatment plant study recommendations
(Red Oak) -- Red Oak city officials are considering the next course of action for its wastewater facilities. During its regular meeting earlier this week, the Red Oak City Council reviewed the recommendations from a wastewater treatment plant study with Dave Sturm of Snyder and Associates and recently hired Wastewater Superintendent Clint Roland. The city received the study's results late last year, including nearly $8.3 million worth of potential renovations. While the renovations could buy the city a few more years, Roland says they would likely prolong the issue and cost the city more in the long run.
