    100 Years Ago: 1924

    Hospital Week began through the efforts of the Civic League. • Carrie Woods and her children returned from a visit to Dr. W.G. Kiger on his plantation. • Mrs. Paul Polk gave a card party in honor of her sister, Mrs. Steele.

    90 Years Ago: 1934

    The new Hunter Beauty Salon was opened on Monroe Street. • J. Rigby Perry was chosen president of the Vicksburg Brewing Company. • R.C. Ellis, who was injured in an auto accident, was resting well.

    80 Years Ago: 1944

    The Rev. W.F. Mansell, former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, was in Vicksburg from D.C. • Daisy Broscol, a member of the Carr Central H.S. faculty, was notified that her brother, Capt. Robert Hogan, was missing in action. • D.C. Bell was in New York on business.

    70 Years Ago: 1954

    Ethel Sue Dent was home for the weekend from Ole Miss •  Mr. and Mrs. J. Mack Ross and their son were visiting in New Orleans. • Chris Damilatis died.

    60 Years Ago: 1964

    Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bounds announced the birth of their daughter, Helena. • Services were held for William Thomas. • The St Aloysius High School band held its annual spring concert at the school.

    50 Years Ago: 1974

    Dr. I.C. Knox Jr. was honored for his 25 years at the Vicksburg Clinic with a dinner at the Rivertown Club.  • Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lee McWilliams announced the birth of their son, Larry Lee Jr. • William Birchett Ross V celebrated his first birthday.

    40 Years Ago: 1984

    The forecast for the Mississippi River crest was raised to 47.5. • Mary A. Chapman died. • Rob Ball won Best in Show at the Vicksburg Art Association’s Youth Art Show. • Services were held for Isabel Bankston Lammons.

    30 Years Ago: 1994

    Vicksburg residents were expected to see part of the annular eclipse, as it was visible from New Mexico to Maine. • A two-part trolley system was set to cruise Vicksburg. • Gertrude Woodhouse died at 102.

    20 Years Ago: 2004

    A Warren County man was surrendered when he reentered the state and was indicted on charges of murder and manslaughter.

    10 Years Ago: 2014

    The Strand went beyond the screen with dual screenings. • CAM2 International moved to the Port of Vicksburg.
