Valentine Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan Meeting
About 70 citizens attended an informative meeting last evening at Bolo Beer Co to discuss a Valentine Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan. A Master Plan will be used to: Prioritize and guide future park, recreation, and trail development and improvements including budgets and help seek out additional funding sources and partnerships for the proposed projects. After a short presentation the attendees rotated through 5 areas to discuss such things as trails, new or existing parks, camping areas and other ideas.

One arrested after Monday morning White River stabbing
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - One man is behind bars after authorities from the Mellette/Todd County Sheriff’s Office responded to a stabbing on Monday. Construction Ready to Start Up Again on Main Street
Weather permitting, work is scheduled to resume next week on the Valentine Main Street project. Construction will consist of establishing project detours,. removing existing concrete pavement, sanitary sewer & water main utilities, storm sewer, grading, concrete pavement, and roadway lighting. Other work will place sidewalks, street lighting, sod, roadway paint, repair & replace concrete, and several misc. items. Traffic control will be placed to shift north/south traffic at the intersection of 4th & Main. Head to head traffic will continue on the new roadway (northbound) lane. The Cherry Street Detour with a temporary traffic signal at HWY 20 & Cherry Street will also be established to detour HWY 83 traffic. Main Street will remain open, but HWY 83 traffic will travel Cherry Street. Work will require the closure of 4th Street at Main Street to Cherry Street. The road closure will begin at the intersection of HWY 83 (Main Street) & 4th Street working west along US-83/West 4th Street 400 feet toward Cherry Street. Restrictions to over width and overlength cargos is in place. Concrete pavement removals are also planned to begin next week.
School Shooter Hoax in Valentine
A gaggle of apparent hoaxes across the country spawned by an online “Tik Tok” challenge has led to some tense moments across Nebraska this week,. including Valentine High School. At about 9:45 this morning, the Valentine High School was contacted pertaining to a possible shooting threat at the school. Valentine Police Department had been in contact with the Nebraska State Patrol stating that there were similar reports across the state including Columbus, Omaha South, Hastings, Kearney, Scottsbluff, Grand Island, and multiple states on Wednesday including Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, Idaho, and Oregon. In an abundance of caution however, Valentine High School and Valentine Police Department treated the incident as a real threat, moving the students to a nearby church while local officers cleared the school room-by-room. No credible threat was found, and parents were allowed to pick up their students from the church after an “all-clear” was announced.
