Rex Adamson builds ranch on good fences, good cattle
Growing up working on his parent’s ranch south of Cody, Rex Adamson could hardly wait to graduate high school so he could ranch full time. That’s exactly what he did. In 1961, he moved to the Goodfellow Ranch, which his dad had purchased in 1959. That ranch became the Brocken Box and has been his home ever since.

Long Time Ainsworth Broadcaster Dies
Larry Rice was owner and general manager of KBRB AM & FM in Ainsworth, Nebraska. The son of C.C. and Sylvia Rice, he grew up on a farm owned by his uncle and managed by his father near Pickering, Missouri. A graduate of Pickering High School in 1956, Larry attended Northwest Missouri State in Maryville intending to become a high school coach.
2024 Old West Days
As plans are finalized for Old West Days and the Nebraska Cowboy Poetry Gathering and Valentine, Nebraska’s annual 1884 Days. The theme this year is Old Traditions and New beginnings and will feature some past favorite entertainers and some new talent. The committee announced that over 50 outstanding entertainers from fourteen states will be entertaining during the event. Kickoff will be the live old-time radio melodrama to be held Thursday evening, April 25, at the Valentine High School Auditorium, beginning at 7:00 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Valentine area Chamber of Commerce with a free will donation to the chamber and Old West Days. Free music and poetry sessions will be held Friday, the 26th, at the Valentine Methodist Church and Saturday, April 27, at the high school. There will also be a full art and trade show at the high school starting at 4pm on Friday and running all day Saturday. Featured sessions will be at the high school Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Saturday afternoon at 1:30. Concession will be available at both locations. The Vets Club will host jam session for anyone who wants to join after the events on Friday and Saturday evenings. Go to Oldwestdays.net for complete line up and details.

Valentine High School Prom Royalty
Preston Stoeger and Kinsey Buechle were crowned Prom King and Queen at Valentine High School Saturday evening. Prom theme was “out of this world”. Students enjoyed a banquet at the Peppermill, followed by promenade, crowning and dance at the high school and post prom hosted by the parents at the middle school.
