KVSH Comment Program Discussed Upcoming Convention and Community Center
On the KVSH Comment program this morning our guests were Valentine Mayor Kyle Arganbright, Cherry County Commissioner Nina Nelson and Tourism Director Regina Osburn. The topic of discussion was the potential purchase of the former Shopko building in Valentine for a convention and community facility. Arganbright stated the the preliminary estimated cost of the project would be $9 million dollars. Initially funds would come from 1.5 million dollars in city sales tax and 1.5 million from county lodging taxes. There would be a public capital campaign to raise an estimated 3.
Allen man sentenced for involuntary manslaughter
PIERRE, S.D. (KEVN) - Llewellyn John Running Hawk, age 48, was sentenced to two years and nine months in federal prison for involuntary manslaughter. The conviction stems from an incident that happened on Nov. 19, 2022, in Todd County, South Dakota. Running Hawk had been consuming alcohol and was driving eastbound on US Highway 18. The victim, an adult woman, was riding in the front passenger seat. As Running Hawk approached a curve at a high speed, he lost control of the car and left the roadway. The car rolled multiple times, causing the victim to be thrown from the car. The victim died due to injuries suffered in the wreck.

As more and more Valentine residents get their full Christmas light display up, KVSH Radio is now accepting nominations for the 2nd annual Christmas light tour to be held on December 27th. Nominations will be due at KVSH by December 22nd. On the evening of December 27th, KVSH will conduct a cruise around town to look at the entries submitted and our judges will, decide who the winners will be. KVSH and our sponsors will offer over 150 dollars in prize money for the winning entries. Entries can be sent to, or dropped off at KVSH Radio, 126 West 3rd St, Valentine Nebraska 69201. If you can include a picture of the display and the address along with the name of the nominee, that would be necessary for judging.

Valentine Chamber Recommending Shoppers Stay Local This Christmas
According to Valentine Chamber of Commerce President Deanne Holmes-Monroe, the Holiday Preview promotion held in late November was a success. Now that December is upon us, the Chamber is suggesting special holiday hours, including later hours during the week as well as trying to have stores open for at least a few hours on Sundays through Christmas. With Christmas Eve falling on a Sunday, most businesses are expected to be closed, so last-minute shoppers need to keep this in mind as your options may be very limited.
Proposed EPA Regulations Expected to Have Minimal Effect on Valentine
On Thursday, the EPA announced a proposal to strengthen its Lead and Copper Rule that would require water systems across the country to replace lead service lines within 10 years. EPA is also proposing additional improvements to protect public health, such as lowering the lead action level and improving sampling protocols utilized by water systems.
