Second chance of 18 inches as snowy week in Colorado mountains continues

The National Weather Service has warned Coloradans about more snow on the way to the state's central and northern mountain regions, on top of snow that landed in a similar area yesterday. A lot of wind will also be present while this snow is falling, which could make driving unsafe.

Current mapping shows that in the 'most likely' snowfall scenario, up to 18 additional inches of snow could land on peaks located east of Steamboat through Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, up to a foot could land on some mountains in the Winter Park area, along the northern portion of the Continental Divide, and in the area of Vail.

The Front Range should be missed by the snow entirely, along with most of the southwest.

Incoming snow will stack on top of fresh powder that's already fallen this week. In the last 48 hours, some peaks in the same area of those set to get hit with more snow through Wednesday morning have gotten a foot of snow.

While Steamboat Resort is in the crosshairs for this incoming powder, this ski spot has already closed for the season. Arapahoe Basin and Loveland remain open, with these spots also getting fresh powder this week.

A winter weather advisory is active in much of the area where snow is expected as blowing snow and accumulation could impact travel conditions.
