Blood supply hits critical low for third straight month
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The Community Blood Center is calling for more donors as the local blood supply is at a critically low level for the third month. The Community Blood Center says supplies of multiple blood types have dropped below a two- to three-day supply, falling short of its five-day target. A surge in emergency medical needs has severely strained local blood supplies, particularly Type O and Type B Negative. A hospital in Brown County requested at least 24 emergency units for six patients, while two Wausau-area patients also required a significant amount of blood over the weekend—compounding the ongoing daily demand for surgeries, cancer treatments, and routine care.
