Brave men and women stepped forward to protect their freedom and taxation and many gave their lives during the Revolutionary War. One such place and people was the Adams family. They moved to the banks of the Yadkin River in what is now Jonesville in the early 1700s. Fourth annual Juneteenth festival planned for Saturday
Community organization Bridge of Unity, representing the Elkin, Jonesville and surrounding areas, will host its fourth annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday in Elkin. The festival features live music, food and craft vendors, local business sponsors and a whole-hog barbecue cook-off. 18 Yadkin County educators awarded creative classroom grants
As 18 educators were cleaning up their classrooms for the summer, Advisory Board members of the Yadkin County Education Foundation and Shallow Ford Foundation staff popped in with balloons and a ceremonial check to surprise and congratulate them on their Creative Classroom Grant award. Wilkes Heritage Museum plans Candlelight Ghost Tours
The Wilkes Heritage Museum will host Candlelight Ghost Tours in Historic Downtown Wilkesboro on Saturday, June 15. Ghost tours are 90 minute walking tours that begin at 7:30 pm. These guided tours cost $15 per person. Reservations for Ghost Tours are required and have a limit of 15 people total per tour. Yadkin budget hearing planned for Thursday
Yadkin County Manager Lisa Hughes will review the 2025 fiscal year budget at a special called meeting on Thursday. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Commissioners Chambers of the Human Services Building, located at 217 East Willow St., Yadkinville. There are no proposed changes to the county tax rate in the 2025 budget. Beginning at 7:25 there will be a public hearing on the Economic Development Funds Appropriation in the proposed 2025 Budget, followed by a public hearing on the proposed budget. The board is expected to vote on the budget following the public hearing.
