NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — The brother of a homicide victim in North Wilkesboro is asking for justice. North Wilkesboro Police tells WXII that on Sept. 29, 2023, they and Wilkes County EMS found a shooting victim on L Street in North Wilkesboro. The victim, Levern Johnson, 32, later died of that wound on Oct. 10.
Lenoir Man Killed In Crash North Of Taylorsville
Taylorsville – On Monday, December 4, at approximately 2:20 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Alexander County on NC 16 at Shade Tree Road. A 2016 Chevrolet Express Van traveling south on NC 16 attempted to turn left onto Shade Tree Road and turned in front of a northbound 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Family seeks answers in death of 14-year old son
BOONVILLE — On Sept. 26 Kacie Gillespie got the phone call of nightmares — a video call no less — of her son lying on the floor bleeding. Channing O'Neal, age 14, sustained a gunshot wound to the head while at a friend's house just a few miles from his own home in Boonville. He passed away from the injury on Sept. 28 at Brenner Children's Hospital. The official cause of death on Channing's death certificate is listed as suicide, but his mom Kacie and stepdad John Gillespie don't think that's what happened. Most of all, the family has concerns that their son's death was not properly investigated.
Burke County Man Jailed In Alexander County
33-year old Joshua Matthew Sigmon of Hildebran, was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center Monday morning. He was scheduled to appear in Alexander County District Court today on charges dating to earlier in the year. He was charged in February by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle and felony larceny.

Taylorsville Man Has Court Appearance Today In Catawba County
Phillip Allen Griffin, age 45 of Taylorsville, was arrested on Friday, November 30th by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony and misdemeanor probation offenses. He is being held in the Catawba County Detention Center under a secured bond of $20,000. Griffin is scheduled to make a Newton court appearance today.

This week in Taylorsville, North Carolina, two incidents occurred that have raised concerns for the community's safety. In the first incident, a man named Randy Darryl Shumake pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Jerry Vinson Hayes. Hayes was found beaten and shot in a wooded area in 2018. In the second incident, a woman named Megan Denae Hefner was arrested and is facing over 80 felony charges for obtaining property by false pretense.
