Tri-City cardrooms face closure unless new owner steps up
It may be the final hand for two Tri-City cardrooms and that could put more than 200 people out of work. Maverick Gaming, the company that owns Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco and Kennewick’s Coyote Bob’s Roadhouse Casino, has filed letters with the state Employment Security Department announcing its intent to close the casinos and six others by Nov. 30, though that could be avoided.

Local chefs showed off and were honored during Tri-Cities Parade of Homes
Local chefs are being honored for culinary creations made in someone else’s kitchen. Almost a month after the Chefs on Parade event, which allows Parade of Homes ticket-holders the chance to tour newly-built homes while also sampling local chef’s food, the winners have been announced. Perch Cantina Executive Chef Luis Talavera took home the 2026 Best Chef on Parade award. The panel of judges was impressed “with his creativity and standout flavors,” according to the announcement. Talavera is known for its elevated take on Latin American cuisine. Perch Cantina is at 592 Columbia Point Dr., Richland. The event-goers had a different favorite. Amina Mohammad, the founder of Tri-Cities Afghan Food , took home the People’s Favorite Chef on Parade award. If you want to try the food for yourself, they’re located at the Pasco Specialty Kitchen, 110 S. 4th Ave. Both Talavera and Mohammad have been invited back to the 2027 Chefs on Parade event to defend their titles. Other participating chefs included Kyle and Shirley Simmons from CG Public House & Catering, Megan and Jason Savely from Frost Me Sweet Bakery + Bistro , Spencer Evers from Lu Lu Craft Bar + Kitchen, and Kara Vogt from The Village

Small film projects bring Tri-Cities into focus
Someone pulling a gun on another in downtown Kennewick isn’t something you see every day. But then, neither is seeing a film crew recording the entire scene. Spotters kept vehicles from driving down the easternmost block of Kennewick Avenue during the filming of “Fate Gambit: First Move” on a quiet Sunday morning in April in front of the former Washington Hardware building. But a few passersby stopped to watch the scene, which involved three actors, a vintage sports car and the aforementioned firearm.
