Gardners Candies announces expansion at plant location

TYRONE, Pa. (WTAJ) — Gardners Candies is expanding its operations at its plant in Tyrone. The announcement came on Tuesday from Chief Operating Officer, Jim Westover.

“We’re looking to really increase our capacity as far as our warehouse goes, as well as possibly putting in another line, which is going to allow our production to increase and is really going to get some job opportunities out there in the community as well,” Westover said.

The company is currently working on a new 22,000 sq. ft warehouse. Once it’s completed, it will have another production line, and be partially used for storage from the main building. Retail operations will also run out of the new building.

“You know, we have a tight-knit group in there. And, you know, we offe, great opportunities for folks out there. And I think that’s one of the things they should take pride in. And also, you know, we like to think we’re kind of a Central PA’s brand if you will,” Westover said.

The warehouse is expected to create between 25-50 new job opportunities.

Gardners Candies has seven physical locations and is currently sold at Sheetz and other retail locations. Westover said that the company is looking to expand east and into other stores such as Wawa, 7-Eleven and Rutter’s.

Next week, the main building will be painted red to match the color of the new warehouse. Construction is expected to be completed in a few months.
