First annual parade, festivities planned for Juneteenth in Muskegon
MUSKEGON, MI -- The Muskegon community is gearing up to celebrate Juneteenth National Independence Day. While June 19 became a federal holiday in 2021, the date has been celebrated since it became the official end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865. While the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, slaves in Texas did not get word of their freedom until more than two years later.

Proposals are in for Chinook Pier renovation project in Grand Haven, residents react
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — In March, City of Grand Haven officials announced they were seeking proposals to update Chinook Pier along the Grand River. The pier attracts people year-round with paths for both walking and biking, as well as being a great spot for fishing. The city announced developers Cherette Group, Copper Rock and Midwest Construction submitted proposals on how they would revitalize the pier.
Residents question conservation easement enforcement at Adelaide Pointe
On May 1st, Adelaide Pointe opened to the public on Muskegon Lake. It’s the first new marina to open in the state of Michigan in nearly 30 years. However, a group of citizens expressed concern over aspects of the development, including a portion of wetland dredged by Adelaide Pointe’s developers, as well as the location of docks installed within the marina. They want to know why the Muskegon Conservation District, or MCD, isn’t enforcing a conservation easement on the property.
Loutit Library in Grand Haven opens media center with vinyl records, listening stations and more
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — On June 7 the Loutit Library in Grand Haven hosted a ribbon cutting to open the Brooks Media Center. The media center includes a vinyl collection ranging from old classics to present-day hits, cozy listening station, a new location for public computers and CDs, solo or small group study tables and board games for in-library use.
