For the first time in quite a while, Highland Home (Ala.) product Jakaleb Faulk made his way out to the University of Alabama.

Faulk, an Auburn commitment, was back in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday to meet the new coaching staff and take in a spring practice. This trip was set up after continued conversations with outside linebackers coach Christian Robinson , who recruited him while with the Tigers over a year ago.

It’s safe to say the Tide made a strong impression on the four-star EDGE prospect.

“The visit went really well for me,” Faulk told BamaOnLine . “I got to meet the new staff. I got to meet a couple of people I’ve known for a while. It was great just to come back to that environment, and it still feels the same as when Nick Saban was there. That’s a big thing for me.

“It’s just the feel when you get on campus and the people that Coach DeBoer has brought to the school. You bring genuine people and kind people that want to pour into you every day, just as Nick Saban had. I believe that Coach DeBoer is continuing that tradition at Alabama.”

Faulk stated that the vibes at practice were “amazing.” He took notice of how the players were locked in on their responsibilities and not slacking in their assignments. There being music played at practice also caught Faulk off guard.

The No. 11 junior in the state of Alabama detailed what stood out to him the most on his visit.

“The highlight of my visit was to watch Coach Robinson coach and see how his linebacker room actually paid attention, and how he could develop me a lot,” Faulk said. “Coach Robinson, the way he breaks down things for people and lets people ask questions… let’s just say if I go there right now, he’ll break it down so easily for me to where I can pick it up in a week or two weeks maybe.

“That’s what I like about him,” Faulk continued. “The way he pours into his team and the way he actually cares about what he’s doing, it’s just a good feeling.”

Their interaction was brief, but head coach Kalen DeBoer did carve some time out to speak with Faulk yesterday.

“I talked with him a little bit,” Faulk said of DeBoer. “He seems like a pretty good guy. I feel like he’s doing the same thing that Nick Saban was doing, and I feel like they made the right choice in picking him up.”

In his conversation with Robinson afterward, Faulk says the two talked about how he would potentially fit in at Alabama. The 6-foot-3.5, 225-pounder is being recruited to play a versatile role in the Tide’s 4-2-5 defense.

“They’re looking at me for the Wolf position,” Faulk said. “They were basically saying that you will rush off the edge when needed to. It’s not a hand-in-the-dirt position; it’s more of a stand up type of position. You can drop into coverage when needed. That’s all I’m looking for. I feel like I’m a versatile player, and I can showcase that to everyone on the field. I can do plenty of things, so that’s why I like the position. The only schools recruiting me like that are Auburn and Alabama. That’s it.”

Alabama will get Faulk on campus at least two more times

A key step in the pursuit of Faulk is to get an official visit date finalized. Faulk says that has transpired as he will be officially visiting Alabama from June 21-23, which is the final weekend before the dead period begins.

Following the visit, Faulk — an Alabama fan growing up — shared where things stand with his interest in Bama.

“My interest level increased a lot more,” Faulk said. “Today was a big stepping stone for me and Alabama, basically. Just to get back over there and check it out. It was pretty amazing to me today.”

Along with increased interest and an official visit date locked in, Faulk says he’ll be back in town on April 13.

“I plan on making it to that one, yes,” Faulk said of potentially returning for Alabama’s spring game.

Faulk says he will also be going to Auburn this week and for their spring game on April 6 as well.

The Tigers commitment since last August detailed where things currently stand in his recruitment.

“The recruiting process, I’m still narrowing everything down,” Faulk said. “I’m still taking everything step-by-step, day-by-day. I believe that it’s going to come to a signing day type of thing. I’m going to have to pick a team that day.”
