African restaurant moving from the Berkshires to Troy

TROY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — House of Seasoning Grill permanently closed its doors in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on March 15. Now, the African-American restaurant is set to open in the former Muddaddy Flats space at 49 3rd Street in Troy.

The restaurant is owned by husband and wife duo Mathieu Niamke and Raissa Doumbia. With the move, the eatery will be changing its name to The Seasoning House, said Doumbia.

“We want to bring an African taste to Troy,” Doumbia told NEWS10. Both Niamke and Doumbia were born and raised in Abidjan, a coastal city in the Ivory Coast, a small country in West Africa.

The Seasoning House menu features African-spice-rubbed wings, grilled whole fish, braised pork, Choukouya de Poulet (jerk chicken), Tchep au Poulet (chicken in sauce with eggplant, cabbage, and carrots), and more. Doumbia said they will be adding more items to the menu at the Troy location.

Muddaddy Flats closed its doors on February 10. “I’ve done everything I can and I’m going to miss being in Troy because being Muddaddy for the last 11 years has been the highlight of my life,” said owner Dan Frament about the closure in January.

Niamke and Doumbia are hoping to open the restaurant in late May. The Seasoning House will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
