Redding indoor pickleball courts move forward. New burger joint opens
More than a year ago, Kendall Bachman of the Redding Pickleball Club told me that they had hoped to open inside courts by this year and that their preferred location was next to Grange Co-op in the Raley’s shopping center on Lake Boulevard. The club hasn't opened. But recently, a state California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control application was posted at the site. The licensee is Redding Pickleball, a limited liability corporation whose managing member is Dennis Shepard. Bachman and three others are also members in the LLC. The application is for a license to serve beer at the club. Shepard told me they are optimistic Redding Pickleball Club will open in January or February. The club will be open seven days a week. Shepard said more details about the club, including a website, will be shared in about a month. They have been working on the project for more than two years. With an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 pickleball players in the North State, Shepard thinks the indoor club will be a popular attraction. Bachman told me last year that the group had looked at the former Big Lots building on Hilltop Drive and the old Joann Fabrics on

Goats! Redding employs time-tested fuel reduction for fire season
Yay! My favorite city employs goats to my neighborhood, and city owned “greenbelt” (read: “fire-hazard”). We awakened to goats outside our back fence this morning and were elated! So glad to see the city being proactive on this, our Urban/Wildland interface. So pleased to see them use this time-honored (not chemical) vegetation management system. We just stood and watched all morning. Yay goats! Thank you Redding!

Viral post about missing pet monkey in Redding sparks debate
A Facebook post of a picture of a monkey that someone claimed to have found in their Redding backyard has gone viral and stirred an online community debate , questioning if the post is an AI hoax and whether it’s legal to have the primate for a pet in California. The post with the picture of the monkey appeared on the Redding Crime & Community Alert/Shasta page on Sunday morning, July 26. “Anyone missing a monkey found him in my backyard. He was coming from Victor area,” the post said. The monkey pictured is black and white and was wearing short pants or a diaper. Redding police Sgt. Paul Slagle said Monday morning that no calls have come in about a monkey on the run. The Haven Humane Society, which also contracts with Redding for animal control services, is aware of the post. “We only got an anonymous call. They said, they just saw a Facebook post about a found monkey,” Annie Ransom of Haven Humane said. Ransom said Haven Humane did not follow up on the phone call.
