Shasta baseball takes down Enterprise, wins season series
Enterprise and Shasta have battled in some intense matchups throughout the 2025-26 academic year. They clashed in the River Bowl football game back in October with Enterprise claiming the trophy. They faced off twice during the basketball season , splitting the two games. The rivalry continued on Friday, March 27, when the Wolves (6-6) baseball team hit the field at Enterprise High to face the Hornets (7-5-1) for the third time this week. The Hornets won the first game 6-3, the Wolves won the second 3-2, and Friday’s contest would decide the season winner. Shasta senior Jack Peterson was there for it all. He was the Wolves’ starting quarterback and a forward on the basketball team. On Friday afternoon, he was batting leadoff for Wolves as their starting first baseman. On the first pitch of the game, Peterson ripped a single to right field. On the third pitch of the game, he stole second. A single and a passed ball later, Peterson crossed home plate for the game’s first score. It would be the first of Shasta’s 15 runs as it slugged its way to a dominant 15-5 win over the Hornets. “Today we played to our capabilities ... everything

Redding Christian relies on stout defense in semifinal win over Mendocino
A poor shooting night couldn’t stop the No. 1 Redding Christian boys basketball team on Saturday, March 7. The Lions (27-3) have relied on some elite shooting all season long, but when No. 4 Mendocino came to Palo Cedro to face Redding Christian in the semifinals of the CIF NorCal Division VI state playoffs, the Lions couldn’t buy a bucket. It didn’t seem to matter. The Lions, behind some stout defense, found a way to stay in front of the Cardinals (23-6) all game long until the 40-25 final score was cemented in the books and the Lions had punched their ticket to the championship game. For head coach Todd Dwyer, the 2024-25 Northern Section Coach of the Year, the plan to counteract an off shooting night was simple. “Just try to keep them confident,” Dwyer said. “We were getting some good looks; we just weren’t hitting them.” Lions senior Collin Matos drilled two threes in the first half, good for six of his 10 points on the night, but that was all Redding Christian would get from deep. So, Dwyer adjusted and had his group attack the paint. “We were trying different things to get the ball to the

Redding Christian girls basketball advances to state championship
When the 2025-26 season started, Redding Christian girls basketball coach Scott Alexander knew he had a good team. What he didn’t know was just how good this team would become. “I didn’t think in December that we could win a title,” Alexander said. “By January, they had me believing, and definitely now.” In fact, Redding Christian hasn’t lost a game since Jan. 1, when Alexander first started to realize this team has the tools to make a deep postseason run. They did it in the Northern Section playoffs and defeated Weed in the Division VI championship game. And now, after taking down No. 3 Forest Lake Christian 52-26 in the CIF NorCal Division VI semifinal game, the Lions (29-3) are heading to the state championships. “This doesn’t come around all the time; this is only the second time that the school has been in an opportunity to win a state title,” Alexander said. “We’re excited; it’s an opportunity that these girls will remember for the rest of their lives.” The Lions didn’t waste any time building a lead against the Falcons (19-9). Redding Christian freshman guard Weslynn Skinner and senior forward Cailee Bowers combined for 10 points in the first
