Two teens and a young adult injured in Kinston shooting
KINSTON, Lenoir County — On Monday, May 13, 2024 at approximately 9:20 p.m., members of the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of individuals that have been shot near the 300 block of S. Davis St. in Richard Green Housing Complex. Upon arrival officers located two female juveniles ages 13 and 15 suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to ECU Medical Center, where they remain in stable condition. While detectives were at the scene investigating, they were called to UNC Lenoir Hospital, where a third victim had arrived and was seeking treatment. The third victim was identified as Rayshon Aytch, 20, of Kinston.

The search continues for a Lenoir County teen who disappeared 23 years ago, and investigators say the believe they know who took the then-16-year-old from her mother’s home. Retired Lenoir County Sheriff Chris Hill, who stepped down from the top job in 2014, has been working cold cases for the county and he said Timika Pidgen’s is one of those cases.

Chemical mix-up at Jacksonville water plant prompts evacuation, no public threat
Jacksonville officials are providing more clarity on the hazmat incident that happened on Tuesday, May 14. Crews responded to the City of Jacksonville Water Treatment Plant around 11 a.m. and found that two chemicals used in the water treatment process had been unintentionally mixed by a private transport contractor, according to Jacksonville officials.
