Thunderstorm warnings have been discontinued for the Toledo area after the previously severe storms weakened Wednesday afternoon.

The warning for Lucas and Ottawa counties had been posted until 4 p.m., but was canceled around 3:25 p.m.

At 2:55 p.m., the National Weather Service office in Cleveland said a severe storm was near Holland and moving northeast at 55 mph with 60-mph wind gusts and penny sized hail. By 3:09 p.m., the warning had been discontinued in western Lucas County but expanded to all of Ottawa County, and another warning had been posted for Monroe County.

A previous warning posted at 2:27 p.m. for Wood, Hancock, and southwestern Lucas counties advised of a line of severe storms extending from near Mcclure, Ohio to near Elida, Ohio moving northeast at 25 mph. Radar indicated the storms had wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail, forecasters said.

By 4:45 p.m., a tornado watch remained in effect for Ohio counties east of the I-75 corridor but had been dropped in Toledo. A severe thunderstorm watch for southeast Michigan also was canceled before its 7 p.m. scheduled expiration.
