Surry Community College is offering a Natural Hair Care Specialist course beginning Jan. 8 and running through May 9 at the Dobson Campus. The class teaches students how to care for natural hair without using hair color, perms, relaxers, or other chemicals. The course includes styling techniques such as braiding, twisting, wrapping, extending, and locking natural hair. It also covers bacteriology and infection control, client consultations, business management, professional ethics, and more.

Bower said people from different backgrounds and experiences develop diverse palates; however, the wine industry often uses Eurocentric terminology. Centering a limited world view when learning about wine could create exclusion and take away space from someone using their own sensory language, he said.
