High school student arrested for making terroristic threats in Royse City, Texas
ROYSE CITY, Texas — A 14-year-old student from Royse City High School was arrested on Monday, May 20, 2024, after making a threat against the school while in class. The Royse City Police Department received the information about the threat, which was immediately reported to the school administration and one of the School Resource Officers on campus. Given the severity of the threat, the juvenile was promptly taken into custody without incident. At the time of detainment, the student was not in possession of any weapon.

Rockwall, TX May 22, 2024 – The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the 2000 block of Clearwater Way in Royse City at 6:00 a.m. on this date. The Search warrant is part of a DEA investigation into distribution of Fentanyl in the Dallas area and our community. Along with the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team (ERT), other agencies that assisted include the Royse City Police Department and Hunt County Sheriff’s Office. Law Enforcement arrested one person at the location related to the search warrant. This is an ongoing investigation.

When Pam Corder, a beacon of dedication in our community, began working with Kaufman County, she encountered a gentleman and his wife who were struggling to pay their electricity bill. Undeterred, Pam immediately went to work organizing resources and found a clear path to a central location where people who needed help could go.
City of Mesquite drafts downtown zoning ordinance
The city of Mesquite is working on creating a downtown overlay ordinance to regulate new businesses coming to its growing downtown. At a May 20 Mesquite City Council meeting, Planning Director Jeff Armstrong presented potential boundaries, design requirements and more to the council for consideration. As the city works on a downtown ordinance, Armstrong said a proposed ordinance would go before the planning and zoning commission before a final draft will go online.

On May 17, Mesquite ISD named Dr. Rosa L. Johnson assistant principal for The Learning Center. Dr. Johnson is a 22-year veteran educator who joined Mesquite ISD in 2022 from Dallas ISD. She began her career at John B. Hood Middle School as a reading teacher and later taught AVID. After 11 years in the classroom, Johnson served as a dyslexia interventionist for four years, then transitioned to the lead Multi-Tiered System of Support reading interventionist role. She also served as an instructional coach for two years before joining MISD. Johnson earned her bachelor’s degree from Governors State University in Chicago and a master’s from the University of Texas in Arlington. Recently, she defended and received her doctorate from the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky.

ROCKWALL, Texas — A 61-year-old Dallas resident, Larry Lee Davis, was convicted of felony theft of property on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, despite having a history of 30 separate theft-related convictions. The Rockwall County jury's verdict led to Davis being sentenced to a decade in prison by District Judge David E. Rakow.
